Reasoning Ghosts With Science. First of all, I will discuss this from the point of view of physics and metaphysics.
We first have to know what ghosts are made of. Many lay people say that ghosts are energy.
But the ordinary understanding of the energy that is usually associated with the existence of ghosts is certainly different from the physical understanding.
In a layman’s sense, especially that Believing in things that are not seen, for them energy is something that can affect the situation, feelings, and state of a person who is exposed to that energy.
In the context of ghosts, the energy in question is negative energy, because the existence of this subtle being is alleged to cause fear, anxiety, discomfort, to those who feel or see it.
In fact, in the world of physics, energy itself is a measure of the ability to do work which is measured in joules.
This understanding has nothing to do with ghosts. Even in physics, negative energy is a concept that is still being debated.
- The image that usually comes to people’s minds when they hear the word energy
Even so, there is still an understanding that tries to connect ghosts with undefined energies in the world of physics.
When asked what the reason is, many of them associate the existence of ghosts with the law of conservation of energy, which is the law which says that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can be changed.
They argue that when a person dies, the energy stored in his body will immediately be converted into energy which they call ghosts.
Even though the energy conversion process is not like that. The energy stored in our bodies will actually be received by the animals that break down our bodies.
Apart from decaying animals, the remaining nutrients and minerals in our bodies will also be absorbed by the plants that live around the body, providing energy for plants to live.
- One example of decomposing animals is animals that rot in the bodies of humans who have died
Apart from being said to be energy, many also say that ghosts are invisible matter.
But, is there any evidence for that statement?
The short answer is, No.
In physics, matter is something that occupies space and has mass. Until now there hasn’t been a single particle that can form ghosts. Nor can anyone weigh the mass of ghosts.
Indirectly, the mystery of the existence of ghosts is solved through the largest particle physics experiment at CERN with the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC itself is the fastest and largest particle accelerator in the world.
By destroying particles at high speed, researchers can find out how the particles interact with each other. In addition, they can also find out what makes up a particle.
Professor Brian Cox said that if ghosts could be explained physically, the matter that made up the ghosts should have been discovered after the atom was broken down into subatomic parts.
In simple logic, if ghosts were matter, they should be able to interact with the surrounding matter that we can clearly see. Besides, everyone should be able to see it.
But in reality, not everyone can see it, even though several people gather at the same place and time.
This is because ghosts are immaterial. As we know, the universe consists of matter and energy. So, if ghosts are neither, then ghosts do not exist.
Then, why do some people see or only feel ghosts?
There are actually many scientific factors that can cause a person to see ghosts, but the most common causes are as follows:
- Due to psychological effects
The first is the psychological effect, what is meant here is the effect that a person will feel because of his own thoughts or what he hears from other people.
For example, rumors that circulate can affect the way a person perceives things through his subconscious.
If someone is told that place X is a haunted place, then he will think about it over and over and eventually the brain will create the illusion that he calls a ghost.
- Due to Neurological Effects
A person who has certain neurological disorders such as schizophrenia often experiences hallucinations. These hallucinations cause sufferers to see or hear strange things.
The disease, caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and chemical imbalances in the brain, prevents a person’s brain from functioning properly.
As a result, sufferers have difficulty distinguishing what is real and what is imagined. This makes sufferers often mistake their delusions for reality.
Apart from schizophrenia, hallucinations can also be caused by several other factors.
The most common of them is the result of lack of sleep. Therefore, it is important for us to get enough sleep to maintain our brain health.
Based on what has been explained in my article, it can be concluded that physics cannot explain the existence of ghosts.
That’s why for the study of ghosts and so on, there is a field of its own called Metaphysics or the fancy language Beyond Physics.
